The History of PAUROTI, How it got its name!
The Portuguese, which came to India in the late 15th century and colonized coastal Goa for about 450 years, introduced the bread to Goa, India. In the Portuguese language, bread is called “pao”. In Goa, “Pao/ Pav” became a part of their food culture, a staple—Portuguese missionaries taught pao making process to local Goans (locals of Goa, India) who converted to Christianity. Gradually, the practice of making baked leavened bread spread all over India & pav bhaji is now an iconic Indian street food.
The tradition of making pauroti or bread entered Nepal from India. We add “roti” to anything round or flat that’s made from flour. So, this is how Pauroti got its name. Please be informed that Pauroti is not linked with foot kneaded dough.
How many of you ignored pauroti thinking that the dough was kneaded using foot?
