Transport Minister Prakash Jwala and Employment Ministry blamed for Balkumari Incident; Government to investigate
The House of Representatives, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has instructed the government to investigate the role of Transport Minister Prakash Jwala and the Ministry of Labour & Employment in connection with the Balkumari Incident.
Minister Prakash Jwala is facing severe criticism as two youths seeking employment in South Korea were killed during clashes with police in Balkumari, Lalitpur.
Several lawmakers have criticized Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Jwala for the tragic incident. Eyewitnesses also said that the situation in the Balkumari protest became more tense after the exchange of words between Minister Jwala and the protestors.
The Government of Nepal has also decided to initiate a comprehensive investigation about the involvement of the Minister of Transport and has instructed the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, along with the Ministry of Home Affairs, to take measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
