April 11, 2022

Nepali filmmakers have submitted a memorandum to the Film Development Board demanding stricter screening of foreign films. A team of filmmakers met the Chairman of the Film Development Board Dayaram Dahal on Sunday and handed over a nine-point memorandum.

The demands of the memorandum are that the Film Bill 2077 should be approved by the Parliament, the Film Development Board should be made autonomous, National Film Policy 2071 should be implemented, and foreign films should be strictly screened in Nepal.

Filmmakers lamented that the rampant screening of foreign movies has collapsed the Nepali movie industry. They have also said that foreign movies have displaced Nepali movies.

Director Shobhit Basnet, film technical association president Pushkar Lama and producer Uday Subbab, and many others were present at the meeting.
