Rahul Rai : The rising rockstar who went too soon..

June 22, 2022

Rahul Rai was born on 14 October 1989 in Kolkata, India, as the first child in the family. However, he was originally from Sikkim. Rahul started his musical journey from an early age and was inspired by his grandfather who used to play violin and harmonium.

Initially, Rahul Rai was into the heavy metal genre and had a band ‘Dream Diabolic’ but he stopped performing heavy metal songs as suggested by his mother, and started working on his own musical style in the Nepali language.

Later in 2014, he formed an acoustic-freestyle indie band ‘Tribal Rain’ with his friends, Asish, and Abinesh Rai. Tribal Rain launched their first studio album, ‘Roka Yo Samay’, on April 3, 2017, which brought them into the limelight of the mainstream Nepali music industry and turned out to be one of the most loved new generation Nepali bands.

Rahul Rai’s melodious and soothing voice helped Tribal Rain gain another height in the Nepali music industry in a short period of time.

Sadly and shockingly, Rahul Rai committed suicide on 14th February 2018. The official music video of ‘Bhanai’ was released a day before his death.

Rest in peace dear Rahul Rai. We are sorry you had to go through so much inner trauma that you decided that life wasn’t worth living anymore. We pray that you find peace.

A great talent went too soon. Your music has indeed added life to the Nepali music industry. You will never be forgotten. Forever in our hearts.

Note: Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you. Doesn’t mean you can, should or need to do it alone. Suicide is not an option.

Let’s talk about mental health.
Do not hesitate.
