Anju Devi Shrestha, and Suprita Gurung, both aged 33, have made history by becoming the first lesbian couple in Nepal to officially register their marriage. With this, Nepal has become the first country in South Asia to register same sex marriage and second in the whole Asia.

Suprita said that if they desired to have a child, they would explore alternative methods for childbirth.

The certificate mentions that the marriage has been temporarily registered for the time being until the formulation of the related law, said Rural Municipality’s chief administrative officer Arjun Subedi.

Anju currently lives at Kohalpur-5 in Banke district while Suprita resides in Britain.

LOVE STORY 🏳️‍⚧️

Anju and Suprita had been in relationship when they were studying in class 12. They first became friends through Facebook. As their relationship deepened, they began dating, fell in love and decided to get married. The couple married about five years ago. However, they did not receive a legal marriage certificate at that time.

The couple claims that despite living apart for a few years, they never had any quarrels. They said that even though they had to face rejection from their family and relatives, now they have full support.
